Cairns to Auckland, Day 12 - June 27, 2000

Today was a travel day. We left our motel early to be able to work with Ansett on a refund of the money we paid for the doctor and meds. It's a good thing we did. The same snippy woman was at the baggage desk and besides being her normal unpleasant self, she took just under an hour to look at the bills and write a check. We were the only warm bodies she was working with.

Now it's just a long wait until the plane takes off at noon but this is where I make another mistake. When we checked in I gave the man our ticket to Sydney instead of handing him the whole book. If I had done it right, our bags would have been checked to Auckland instead of just to Sydney. This way we had to claim our bags and get a bus to the International terminal. Otherwise they would have handled our luggage and us. Instead we were on our own. At the other terminal we were re-ticketed with a seat between us. Such luxury! An uneventful flight brought us to New Zealand

A very unusual Maori carving graces the hallway from the airport shops. We were met in Auckland and taken to our hotel. Commanding the night sky is the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere. Standing tall and pointing toward heaven is the Sky Tower. I know that's a 'must see' for me.

We checked in at midnight with a wake up call for early once again.
